About

Young People Leading a World Free of FGM by 2030

Our Mission is to meaningfully engage Young People from all regions, languages, and races at all levels for a concerted effort to accelerate the abandonment of FGM in this generation.

ABOUT US

The Global Youth Consortium (GYC) against Harmful Practices is a youth movement with representation in 24 countries with the sole vision of achieving a world free of female genital mutilation and child marriages by 2030. The Consortium (GYC) Structure works closely with the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Program on eliminating FGM to ensure that young people are meaningfully engaged in the advocacy against FGM. Through advocacy, partnership, and lobbying, the consortium disrupts social norms and creates safe spaces for women and girls.

The Consortium was created after the Dakar Declaration, in which young people from across the globe met in Senegal in November 2021. On February 8, 2022, the Global Youth Consortium was launched.
